Clancy
came to live with me in 1995, after I met him in a shelter and
realized that it was love at first sight! He was rescued from an abusive
situation, and it took him a full two years to be completely at ease with
me. But he has been a charmer from the start. To begin with, Clancy is a
polydactyl. He has seven toes on each of his front feet and five on his back.
His front feet look like catchers' mitts, and he uses them to "whap" any
other cat who gets in his way (he shares his house with Jasper, Jake,
Samson, and Billy). I have never seen a cat so active or playful as
Clancy. His favorite toy is a feather on a string attached to a pole. He
drags it around the house, up onto the bed, even into the bathroom. When
he wants me to play with him, he starts out with a simple chirping sound
and then progresses to a pat on the leg. Finally, if he hasn't gotten my
attention, he digs his claws in a bit. That always gets a reaction!
Clancy will play for hours - I've never yet been able to wear him out.
And when he wants to cuddle, he snuggles as close as he possibly can.
Clancy is one of the smartest cats I've ever had and definitely one of
the most entertaining!
