This
is Conrad. He was found abandoned, dirty and hungry living under a
car one January in Brooklyn, NY and brought to us by our son. Conrad's
personality has just captivated us while his general health improved and
he learned to live as a country cat instead of a city cat. He is a most
loving, good-natured fellow who has risen above the trauma of his
homelessness to be a wonderful pet!
Conrad arrived at our house in Connecticut from the streets of Brooklyn
in a cardboard box, obviously thin and exhausted. Still, he explored his
new surroundings, purring and bumping as though to say "Thank you for
saving me". He quickly regained his handsome appearance and good health.
When Spring arrived we took him outside for the first time and he
gingerly walked on grass--tiptoeing and skirting over to the sidewalk.
He ran around the edge of the yard hiding under bushes which helped us
understand how he managed to live under the cars in the street
apparently for months. Before long, Conrad began establishing his
territory in the yard. The first time his "saviors" from Brooklyn came
to visit him, he pranced up to the porch with a dead mole hanging from
his mouth as a gift to these Good Samaritans. While they were glad to
see him, as animal lovers they were unsettled with his gift! We thought
it was endearing...
Now Conrad comes to a whistle, snuggles between us while we watch tv,
lies in front of the fireplace on wintery days, chases butterflies,
hunts on occasion, enjoys walking in the rain, (!) and has made friends
with the cat next door. His only clue to his harrowing escape from life
on the streets is evident with loud noises or lots of people when he
runs for the cover of the nearest furniture and cowers.
