Why
Socks is special? Well, I got him from the local SPCA at a very
difficult time. My previous cat had died, and there was this tiny grey
and white ball of fluff that got sick on the desk of the SPCA
inspector... Well, he grew up into a very handsome fellow (as is evident
from the picture). One that talks now and then, that always welcomes you
with an upright question-mark tail and that is very gentle with the
other, smaller cats in the family. He is our 'gentle giant.' We also
share a night-time routine - when I crawl into bed with a book to read
at night he jumps onto the bed and settles down on my chest for some
attention. Purring (very softly) he will butt my book and I will scratch
behind his ears. Socks is also an avid fish-watcher (my wife and I have
two fish-tanks) and has on the odd occasion tried to get into one of the
fish-tanks. He has enriched my life with his antics, his little ways.
